The third, and final, Sardinian winery presented in this trilogy is the Antichi Poderi di Jerzu, a winery which greatly contributed to the refining and marketing of the Cannonau di Sardegna DOC wine.
Established in 1950 thanks to the work of local doctor, Josto Miglior and 45 other partners, owners of the best grapes grown on some of the oldest farms in the area. Since the beginning, the main goal of the Cantina Sociale Jerzu (Jerzu Winery Company) has been the promotion of the local grapes and wine production.
The modern structure that was initially built, was improved all along, integrating the latest enological techniques and equipment. The group changed its name as well to Antichi Poderi di Jerzu (Old Jerzu Farms), to highlight the strong links to both tradition and territory.
Dr. Franco Usai, Commercial Director of the winery, illustrated to us the inspiring philosophy promoted by the enterprise, both in production and enological research. The innovative and dynamic character of the winery comes from the conviction that it is vital and necessary to look forward commercially and technically but, at the same time, remember and pass on traditions and local culture.
The winery is located in the heart of Ogliastra region, where the vintage Cannonau wine is produced and the grapes have been grown in the ancient farms since time immemorial. The vineyards are characterized by small parcels scattered in the hills and cultivated with meticulous care and devotion.
Wild and generous land on the eastern slopes of Sardinia, Ogliastra alternates between gentle rolling hills and green forests, and is framed by the island's typical rocky peaks. The blue-green reflections of the Mediterranean are visible in the valley down below, offering a unique view of the beauty and contrasts of the island.
