Enoteca Siena: Campaign to Educate Youth About Wine Starts in Sicily Staff Writer - January 7, 2005
The new, 2005 phase of "Vino e Giovani" ("Wine and Young People"), the national campaign of education about correct and moderate drinking promoted by Ente Vini - Enoteca Italiana from Siena, and the Ministero delle Politiche Agricole Forestali (Italian Agriculture Ministry), takes off in Sicily.
The campaign, now in its second year, is dedicated to young people between 18 and 30 years of age, in particular at university. Its slogan is "Per Bacco, Ragazzi!" (play on words meaning "Wow, Kids!" or literally, "For Bacchus, Kids!"), with the tag line"Bevi poco, per bere bene!" ("Drink little, to drink well!"). The soundtrack is provided by Neapolitan singer Edoardo Bennato.
The campaign takes off in Palermo on January 12, where the local university hosts it for a full day, ending at 6.00pm, in the Main Hall of the Engineering Faculty. There, a free concert by Bennato entitled "L'Uomo Occidentale" ("Western Man") will take place.
The first convention meeting, presented in cooperation with the Sicilian Region's Agricultural Council, at Palazzo Steri, is called "Drink well to think well" and starts at 9.30am.
The event opens with greetings by the Rector Giuseppe Silvestri, and the deputy president of Ente Vini - Enoteca Italiana, Luigi Mainetti, among others.
The convention, moderated by the head of the Sicilian RAI office (RAI is the Italian national TV), journalist Vincenzo Morgante, features the Interregional Program Coordinator of "Comunicazione ed Educazione Alimentare" ("Communication and Food Education"), Rosa Bianco Finocchiaro, Professor of Food Marketing of the Agriculture Faculty, Antonino Bacarella, wine producer, Diego Planeta, and journalist, Gaetano Basile.
At the end of the presentation there will be an open debate with closing speech by Regional Agriculture Councilor, Vincenzo Leontini.
The program of the "Wine and Young People" day continues at the 3:00 pm in the Mechanics Hall of the Agriculture Faculty with a guided tasting entitled, "Discovering Wine". This part of the convention is made in collaboration with the Sicilian section of the Association of Young Italian Wine Businessmen (AGIVI).
From 3.30 to 5.30pm, in the Agriculture Faculty arcade, there is a free tasting of select typical Sicilian wines, in cooperation with the Regional Institute of Vines and Wine. Then, at 6.00pm, "L'Uomo Occidentale" concert, by Edoardo Bennato ends the event.
