PELLEGRINO ARTUSI
Gourmet and writer, Pellegrino Artusi spent most of his life in Tuscany, mixed with the hip and trendy crowd of the time, which included politicians and scientists. He made money practicing in both the world of commerce and banking. He then retired to dedicate his time to literature. His fame, however, comes from a single cook book, "La scienza in cucina e l'arte del mangiar bene", or "Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well".
This recipe book, published for the first time in 1891, is still published and sold widely today. It is probably the most well known Italian cook book of all times. In addition, for a long time, the book was considered a perfect example of the standard Italian language.
