In May, WineCountry.IT, LLC organized the successful 12th annual Italian Flavor Forum. This invitation-only wine and specialty food tasting event is dedicated to professional buyers, wine educators, trade journalists and San Francisco Bay Area opinion leaders, and its purpose is to promote select quality Italian wines and food items produced by small and medium estates. The event took place at the Italian-American Museum in San Francisco on the 27th, just before the Memorial Day weekend, under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco.
The numerous invited guests provided us, and the participating producers, with precious feedback about the new wines, extra virgin olive oils, traditional balsamic vinegar and condiments from Modena.
We are very proud because, despite the fact that the California-wine-trained palate of a few guests resulted in scores much lower than average –see for instance the minimum and maximum scores of Toscana 2004 IGT Occhini, Ravenna Rosso IGT Burson Blue Label 2006, or Chianti DOCG 2008– the overall scores obtained by all the products presented were fairly high. In fact, 16 products scored over 95 points (Excellent), and nine between 90 and 94 (Very Good). Only 10 products scored between 70 and 79 points (Average), while all the other scored from 80 to 89 points (Good.)
Since WineCountry.IT dedicated its energies to the Flavor Forum show, there are sdomewhat fewer articles in this issue. We hope you will enjoy them and make a note to lookm for the next issue, which will certainly be richer in content. Enjoy,
