This October, one of my favorite months of the year, perhaps because I was born in it, is particularly exiting for me because we are preparing the 10th Italian Flavor Forum in the San Francisco Bay Area.
To celebrate this important step, we have decided to open half an hour earlier than usual for the press only. On that occasion we welcome the opportunity to officially present the Centellino to the California press, and announce the exclusive US distribution agreement secured by our group.
The Centellino was also in evidence at the Fiorino Italian Imports booth at the 11th Miami Food & Beverage Show. Everybody liked the Centellino there, even more than we expected. In addition to the US market, the Centellino also won over the South American buyers.
Below, please find a variety of articles about our favorite subject, including among others, the "Moletto News" newsletter, the announcement of Italian wine authority, Luca Maroni,SensOfWine US Tour in Washington DC. Read also about the threat of overproduction faced by the Australian wine industry, and the state of confusion in which the Italian and French wine producers and consumers worldwide will soon find themselves in because of the proposed new European denominations, common to all European state members. We may have to re-learn our Italian wine appellations and designations.
Enjoy the reading and drink well but in moderation.

Centellino and Vino at the Miami Food and Beverage Show |
| |
Saint Louis, Missouri-based Fiorino Italian Imports L.L.C. and WineCountry.IT, L.L.C., joined forces to promote the Centellino, the amazing Italian-made top-of-the-bottle decanter produced by the Tuscan company Table Top, as well as nine select red wines, seven of which were produced by four Italian producers and two by California Adobe Vineyards.
Despite the fact that the show was not specifically dedicated to wine or wine accessories, it turned out to be very positive. In fact, the Centellino generated more interest than expected, as did the wines poured to demonstrate how it works.

Overproduction: A Threat to the Australian Wine Industry |
| |
Overproduction is currently the biggest problem facing the Australian wine industry, thus according to the newly-formed Barossa Grape and Wine Association, vintners must stop planting new vines.
"Oversupply remains a very real concern for both grape-growers and winemakers across Australia," said BGWA chief executive Sam Holmes. "Our growers and winemakers in the Barossa are also very conscious of the need to protect the region's outstanding reputation for quality and its role as a major national and international tourist attraction." he said.

Is It Sangiovese Which Trickles From the Fountain of Youth? |
| |
Several studies and medical research have found that resveratrol, a compound found in the skins of red grapes and other plants, such as eucalyptus, spruce, and lily, as well as in other foods, such as mulberries and peanuts, though it is most abundantly found in vitis vinifera, vitis lambrusca, and muscadine grapes, which are used to make wines, may help to prevent heart disease and other age-related illnesses.
The recent discovery in a historic Tuscan pharmacy in Asciano, near Siena, of an 18th century recipe in an ancient manuscript, takes this knowledge back a few centuries.

| ISMEA / UIV 2008 Italian Wine Production Forecast: Part 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 |
| |
Article in six parts presenting the projection by ISMEA – Unione Italiana Vini about Italian wine production, which sees the volume up 7%, but does not recoup the whole amount decreased in 2007.
Italian wine production is expected to be around 46 million hectoliters (over 1,215 million gallons), with the boot split substantially in two main areas: the South marks a substantial recoup over 2007, while the Northern regions repeat the low production values of last year. Quality-wise, the expectations are from good to excellent.
The 2008 harvest will be more generous compared to the previous year, though it will not reach the 2006 output. This is as much as the second reconnaissance on the field by ISMEA (Servizi per il Mercato Agricolo, or Services for the Agricultural Markets) and the Unione Italiana Vini (UIV, or Italian Wine Union) reveals. The projections point to 46 million hectoliters, or 7% increase over the 43 million reported by ISTAT (Italy's National Institute of Statistics) in 2007.

EU Reforms Threaten Italy's DOC and IGT Denominations |
| |
As another expected good grape harvest is gearing up, many Italian wine industry professionals are worried and upset, as they are convinced that new EU wine reforms set to regulate winemaking on a European basis starting in 2009, would destroy centuries of Italian winemaking tradition and cause market chaos.
The changes proposed by the European Common Market Organization (CMO) will replace all current national appellation systems with just two standard European denominations: DOP and IGP.

Fattoria Paradiso, Bertinoro, Italy |
| |
There is a lot of everything at the Fattoria Paradiso (Paradise Farm) of Capocolle di Bertinoro, in the province of Forlī-Cesena, in the heart of the Romagna side of the Emilia Romagna region of Italy.
A lot of history, to begin with. Probably of Roman origins, the current architectural structure was known as Castello Ugarte Lovatelli (Ugarte Lovatelli Family Castle) in Renaissance times, and remained in the hands of the noble family until the 19th century, when it was purchased by the Pezzi family, who owns it to this day. During the 1900s, the ancient residence of Capocolle hosted many important artists, authors, politicians, theater and movie actors, becoming the de facto Romagna's salotto culturale (cultural hall).
