Satisfaction and positive commercial contacts for some of the Italian Flavor Consortium's associated Italian producers are the result of the latest Italian Flavor Forum VII, held on May 21st, at San Francisco's Museo ItaloAmericano, at Fort mason, in the heart of the Marina district.
During the event we officially introduced the Centellino in California. The top-of-the-bottle decanter awakened a lot of interest, thanks to its effectiveness in instant wine aeration. This accessory allows the winedrinker appreciate the wine at its best, even in the case of a bottle just uncorked, after long years of rest and ageing in the quiet environment of a temperature-controlled cellar.
The Museo ItaloAmericano, where this latest Italian Flavor Forum took place, turned out to be an excellent location, and the people working there are all friendly and efficient. We will certainly organize other events there in the future.
We are also planning other events, dedicated to wine buffs, connoisseurs and collectors of Italian wines this side of the ocean. Participants will be lead to the discovery of Italian wine and food, detailed region by region and, in certain cases, wine zone by wine zone. The goal is to take the sector's West Coast opinion leaders on an enogastgronomic journey at the discovery of the great variety of wines which represent the expression of the over 300 Italian native vines.
On another note, we are presenting various interesting articles as usual, starting with the monthly series about Italian native vines, by Rosa d'Ancona. This series of articles is almost at the end, but miss D'Ancona will be with us for the foreseeable future, taking us on a food and wine tour of Italy. This months she offers us a Sardinian seafood menu.
This is an excellent season for events. Among others, we are excited about the upcoming third Vino in Villa, the first to touch base on the West Coast, in San Francisco. For the occasion the Consorzio per il Prosecco di Valdobbiadene DOC is bringing its best Proseccos to the attention of the US market.

This Award is inspired by today's women whose growing influence and recognition play a more important role in the wine business.  Our seventh invitation-only trade show organized in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Italian Flavor Forum VII, took place on May 21, 2007 at the Museo ItaloAmericano (Italian American Museum), located in the Landmark Building C of Fort Mason, in the heart of the cool San Francisco Marina district. We were blessed with gorgeous weather. The warm, sunny day, cooled by a pleasant breeze made the day for sailboat buffs and wind surfers who took advantage of it in the water of the bay.

Sale&Pesce (Salt&Seafood) 2007 |

 The third annual event entitled Sale&Pesce ended successfully on May 20, 2007, at Andora's Porticciolo Turistico (Small Tourist Port), in the presence of the town's Basilico (religious authority). This year marked a record, so far, for the number of visitors (over 20,000), and exhibitors (70), as well as for the perfect collaboration of the various local institutions.

New Look for Enoteca Bacchus in Montalcino |

 Bacchus is a characteristic locale on the ground floor of an ancient building located near the main Piazza of Montalcino, in Tuscany.
Recently Bacchus revived the interior with a mural done by Emilian artist, Nicla Sentimenti, who has been living in the Umbria region for many years.

 On June 29, 2007, the third annual Premio della Cucina Mediterranea (Mediterranean Cuisine Competition) will take place in Salerno, in the Campania region. The event will see the participation of many VIPs, such as Chef Gian Paolo Belloni, journalist Lamberto Sposini, Ambassador of Portugal in Naples, Italian Agriculture Minister Paolo de Castro, as well as the Agriculture councilors of the five participating Italian regions: Campania, Basilicata, Apulia, Calabria and Sicily).

 Every year, the importation of foreign wines to Bulgaria almost doubles, with the greatest number of new products coming from Italy. As a country with centuries-old wine traditions, Italy is unrivalled on the wine world market when it comes to the quality/price ratio.
For the first time, at the Wine Fair St. George The Victorious, Bulgarian wine lovers had the opportunity to taste and buy high-class wines from 12 different Italian wine regions. The event took place in the garden of Grand Hotel Sofia from May 4, to May 9, 2007.

Occhini: Wine is a Family Tradition |

 Ilaria Occhini, a well known Italian actress who played in movies with Marcello Mastroianni and Vittorio Gassman, directed by the likes of Luchino Visconti, Franco Zeffirelli, Vittorio De Sica, Dino Risi and Luca Ronconi, some time back decided to revive the vineyard and make wine again at the family residence,the historic Villa La Striscia, which was originally built in the 16th century in the hills nearby Arezzo. Currently, from the ancient cellars come the red wine Occhini and the Chianti DOC Bernardino.

 During the next grape harvest the Italian municipalities which are home to DOC wines will organize fundraisings by selling native vines and local wines. The initiative is organized in collaboration with the World Centers of Compassion for Children, with the goal to create two Città della Pace per i bambini (Peace Cities for Children) in the Basilicata region, at Scanzano Jonico, in the province of Matera, and Sant'Arcangelo, in the province of Potenza.

 The consensus for Radici d'Irpinia (Roots of Irpinia), the commercial mission organized in the US by the Comunità Montana d'Irpinia (Mountain Community of Irpinia) arrived from various sources, including the Consul General of Italy in New York, Antonio Bandini and the Consul of Italy in Pennsylvania, Stefano Mistretta, as well as from representative of ENIT (Italian State Tourist Board), Institute for Italian Culture of New York, Comunità Montana (Mountain Community) Terminio Cervialto, EPT (Provincial Tourist Board) and the provincial administration of Avellino. In addition, the event offered prestigious US magazines, such as Wine Spectator and Allure, the opportunity to discover the products from this area of the Campania region.

Third Annual Vini nel Mondo 2007 |

 From June 1, to 3, 2007, the third annual Vini nel Mondo (Wine in the World), which will include the second Notte Bianca del Vino (Sleepless Wine Night) will take place in Spoleto, in the Umbria region of Italy.
The weekend is filled with events dedicated to the "awareness of drinking well", and on June 2nd the highlight of the show, the Notte Bianca del Vino (Sleepless Night of Wine), moderated by Fede and Tinto, hosts of the radio show Decanter-Radio Due, will take place.

Italian Native Vines

With its 78,000 hectares (over 192,742 acres) of vineyards and an average yearly production of 8,825 million hectoliters (over 223 million gallons) of wine, Veneto is among the largest wine producing regions in Italy.
Thanks to the great environmental variety, the respect and, in certain cases, the recuperation of ancient native vines at risk, and above all, to the dynamism of its producers, this region provides a great variety of high quality, valuable wines. The positive energy of the vitivinicultural sector of this region is reflected in the three DOCG, 22 DOC, and nine IGT wines produced.
