Italian Flavor Forum VI

Italian Flavor Forum VII

May 21, 2007

at the Museo ItaloAmericano,
Fort Mason, Building C,
99 Marina Blvd.
San Francisco, CA 94123, USA

Educational Italian wine and food event dedicated to importers, distributors, resellers, restauranteurs, wine bars, wine collectors and trade writers.

By invitation only!

We are also looking for California distributors for our growing portfolio of quality Italian boutique wines.

We apologize for skipping the April issue of the e-Letter due to lack of time. In any case, we are now back on track and this month's issue includes a little more material than usual.

We have reports from the 41st Vinitaly wine trade show and my Lonesome Italian Sideways, plus an article about the Vino Italiano, a San Francisco event in which we participated in March, and another piece about April 30th Procissi Cellars Open House, where we poured two wines from two associate producers: the 2005 Prosecco Valdobbiadene DOC Spumante Extra Dry – Gorio, by Azienda Agricola Malibràn, and the 2005 Moscato D'Asti DOCG – Ventisei, by Azienda Vitivinicola Colledoro.

In addition, at the Procissi Cellars Open House, we introduced the Centellino, the amazing top-of-the-bottle mini decanter, the result of Italian research and development which instantly transforms just-opened wine into properly decanted wine by way of oxygenation.

On a different note, the seventh Italian Flavor Forum, to be held on May 21, 2007, at the Museo ItaloAmericano, at Fort Mason, in the heart of San Francisco's Marina district, is rapidly approaching. On that occasion we welcome Bay Area professional wine and food buyers and the press. We will taste over 70 Italian quality wines, over 20 of which are introduced in the US for the very first time. The new wines, all from small and medium boutique producers, arrive from the regions of Apulia, Campania, Friuli, Piedmont and Tuscany. In addition, we will introduce an exceptional new product: cold-pressed hazelnut oil.

Enjoy your reading, possibly while sipping a glass of good Italian wine.

Loris Scagliarini,
WineCountry.IT President

Lonesome European Sideways – In 15 Parts
SFOIt's 10AM Saturday, March 24, 2007. I turn off the computer and, with the help of my lovely wife, Brigit, I load my two pieces of luggage into the PT Cruiser and we drive to the San Francisco airport.

This year I am traveling all alone to the 41st Vinitaly.

Upon arrival, after an almost 24-hour journey, what was supposed to be a brief visit to my mom, in typical Italian fashion, turns into a full dinner with prosciutto and cheese as appetizers, followed by my mom's famous handmade, tiny tortellini and Maltese-style rabbit stew, cooked in red-wine.

Italian Native Vines

When someone mentions the Trentino region, the first thing that comes to mind is apples. Despite the fact that apple orchards provide the main regional specialty crop, viticulture has carved a respectable niche for itself. Thanks to the strong terroir characteristics of its wines, the regional enological products compare favorably and hold their own, both in the Italian and the international markets.
