Company of the Month

To find the Company of the Month for June 2005 we move to Montalcino, that corner of Tuscany that produces arguably the best known Tuscan red wine, the Brunello di Montalcino. Here we find the Azienda Agraria "la Pescaia" owned by the Di Donato brothers.

Momntalcino

Aniceto, Roberto, Vittorio and Enzo, the four Di Donato brothers personally oversee the winemaking and bottling of their Brunello, Rosso di Montalcino and Oricalco, an excellent red IGT Toscana wine. In addition to wines, "La Pescaia" produces Grappa di Brunello liquor, extra virgin olive oil and an exclusive new product, the gelatina di Brunello, a ruby red jelly condiment made with Brunello di Montalcino wine. Recently introduced to the US at the Premiere of the Italian Flavor Forum, the educational market event held on May 25th in California, these products enjoyed great success, especially the grappa and the gelatina di Brunello di Montalcino

WineCountry.IT Selection

It has been a while since I last wrote a piece for our infrequent column, not because I haven't found any interesting destinations in the Bay Area, but rather because life is very busy. The other night, however, my wife and I went to Benissimo Ristorante & Bar for dinner.

Benissimo Ristorante & Bar

There I always order the Italian style thin crust pizza, and so inspired, I felt the need to find time to write about it.

WinwCountry.IT honored
by Spazio RP

We at WineCountry.IT recently received the following communication:

"Dear web site publisher,
The editorial stuff of
Spazio RP is pleased to announce that results of our exhaustive web credibility study showed that the Italian version of your web site has been recognized as one of the 1,800 most trustworthy and influential sites in Italian.
Your work was reviewed on the database entitled
Spazio RP Internet 2005. The study resulted in the 'map' of the most preeminent web sites, a working tool created for communication and information professionals. Spazio RP Internet is the first (Italian) guide of its kind, and was created to help communication professionals understand and quantify the potential of the most important among the new media ....."

Not being aware of the Spazio RP project, we were very surprised and are truly honored to have been judged worthy of being part of the very first Italian list of 1,800 (of some 10,000 sites judged) trustworthy Internet sites in Italian, both as a believable information tool, as well as a vehicle for effective industry advertising.
More information

We proudly announce that the Premiere of the Italian Flavor Forum®, the first informative event/wholesale market of Italian wines and typical regional quality products, held in Greenbrae, California by the Italian Flavor Consortium® was even more successful than originally anticipated. The event, exclusively by invitation and dedicated to importers, distributors, resellers, buyers for restaurant chains and grocery stores, specialized press and wine collectors, welcomed about one hundred professionals, who truly appreciated both the wines and typical products presented.

Don't miss the article  about it and, if you are a US professional interested in Italian quality wine and/or food, request to be invited to the next event scheduled for Fall of 2005.

We thank the Italian producers who believed in this new concept, promoted by WineCountry.IT under the auspices of the San Francisco Consulate General of Italy. Presenting their products, all of which were top quality, these producers made the Forum the success it was. Furthermore, they acted as ambassadors for Italian enogastronomy in the United States, which, we like to point out, represents the major non-European importer of quality Italian food and wines.

Another gratifying note comes from the web traffic report that signals an ongoing increase, month after month, both in visitors to our web sites and subscribers to our e-Letter. For this we thank associates and users of our web network wholeheartedly and hope everybody enjoys our current articles while looking forward to a long, relaxing and pleasant summer season.

Loris Scagliarini,
President
