The theme of the forth Barry Callebaut Italia trophy, which took place in Rimini, Italy within the SIGEP '04 international event, was "XXth Century: The Events that Modified the Course of History". During the contest was selected the Italian candidate who will participate at the 2005 "World Chocolate Masters" in Paris, France was selected. This is the new international contest that synthesizes the prestigious Parisian "Grand Prix International de la Chocolaterie" contest and Brussels' "International Belgian Chocolate Award" contest. The Italian chocolate maker chosen by the jury to represent Italy at the 2005 World Chocolate Masters is Fabrizio Galla from Turin.

Six were chosen from candidates coming from all over Italy, three for each of two main sections: presentation placement and tasting placement.

Fabrizio Galla, a thirty-something restaurateur from Turin, synthesized in a balanced and essential way, the major innovative achievements of the twentieth century, creating a chocolate sculpture representing the telephone, the TV, the personal computer and the landing of the first man on the moon.

The third contestant within the same category, Valter Tagliazucchi from Modena, winner of last year's Gran Prix della Pasticceria, or "Pastry-Making Prize", in Barcelona, Spain, represented the man -on-the-moon theme in his composition titled "Dal mito di Prometeo un grande balzo per l'umanità" (From the Myth of Prometheus a Great Leap for Humankind).

Davide Bortolotti from Bologna, winner of the presentation contest, presented a truly original composition representing the recent, highly debated genetic engineering achievements.

All contestants received a certificate of participation, while the winners received the awards at a ceremony in the presence of all the judges, the jury president, Andrea Slitti and Giuseppe Nobile, commercial director of the Barry Callebaut Italia, originator and organizer of the event.

At the end of the evening, the organizer presented the contestant and judges with a video featuring a 12-minute synthesis of the most exiting moments of the contest. The video represented an emotional crescendo, from the arrival of the contestants, to the preparation, to the jury work and awarding of the prizes.
