The Premio Luigi Veronelli for 'Best Vintner Career' to Josko Gravner Staff Writer - June 17, 2006
Josko Gravner: Best Vintner Career "for having had the courage to change the style of his wines many times, paying little heed to the success previously obtained, thus ending by producing wine following 5,000-year-old methods, though starting out employing the latest technologies."
The first Premio Luigi Veronelli (Luigi Veronelli Award), created by the publishers of Class Editori and Veronelli Editore, in honor the memory of the greatest Italian enogastronomy critic and writer, took place on June 8, with the presentation of the awards, at the Teatro dell'Angelicum (Angelicum Theater), in Milan.
The 16 trophies were awarded to Italian and international enogastronomy professionals who, according to the large and diverse jury, are at the top of their class.
The 16 categories, some of which include the junior and senior exceptions, as well as the honorable mention reserved for radio shows, highlight the mulifaceted nature of the late Luigi Veronelli's interests. Veronelli's career faced various fronts, from taste to style, from literature to philosophy, from aesthetic to social commitment. The awards highlight the many battles that Veronelli fought to push the envelope for quality wine and food, as well as to defend the serious small entrepreneurs, including vintners, restauranteurs, artisans, distillers and olive oil makers, among others.
