Enologica, the typical Emilia-Romagna wine and trade fair, held in Faenza from 20th to the 22nd of November 2009, reunited the gurus of the Slow Food, Espresso, AIS (Italian Association of Sommeliers), and Gambero Rosso (Red Prawn) guides to select the wines 'Champions of Style' from Emilia-Romagna. Among all the wines tasted, the judges selected four wines from Romagna and eight from Emilia, as the ones that best express the grape variety and terroir characteristics, in addition to being of high quality. The prizes were given on Monday, November 23, 2009 during the day dedicated exclusively to wine and food professionals.

Which Sangiovese shows more character, which Albana is more typical, which Pignoletto better reflects the terroir, which Lambrusco is more representative, and which Gutturnio or Malvasia is more intriguing? In other words, which wines are the 'champions of style' of Emilia-Romagna for each grape type?

The question was authoritatively answered during the Enologica 2009 trade show, the wine and typical Emilia-Romagna fair held in Faenza from the 20th to the 22nd of November 2009, by an elite jury, composed of the editor-gurus of the main Italian wine guides, including the Gambero Rosso, Slow Food, Espresso, and La Romagna and L'Emilia da Bere. The last two are official guides published by the regional AIS chapters.

The event was presented by Natascha Lusenti, journalist and presenter for the Gambero Rosso Channel. In addition the professional day celebrated the chefs of the Chef To Chef regional association, who faced off on the theme Il Selvatico (The Wild), or local wild game, fish herbs, mushrooms fruits, honey and sea weeds.

The chefs' creations are paired with the sommeliers' selections, in order to highlight the importance of food-wine pairing. The idea was to celebrate the chef/sommelier as a 'signature' pairing of each restaurant and eating facility.

On Monday, November 23, 2009, the prize-giving for the winners of the competition entitled Il Triangolo del Gusto. Matrimoni e Tradimenti (The Triangle of Taste. Marriages and Betrayals), organized by Enologica in partnership with the Emilia Romagna region, the Consortium for the protection of local typical products, and Agenzia PrimaPagina, held at Locanda Vite in San Patrignano Monday, November 9, took place.
