San Martino in Cantina (St. Martin in the Cellar) is Italy's annual celebration of the new grape harvest, which takes place Sunday, November 15, during the weekend closest to St. Martin's Day, which falls on November the 11th. For the occasion, wine cellars all over the country will open their doors to wine lovers for the tasting of newly made wines, called Vino Novello.

San Martino in Cantina

Produced with more than 60 different varieties of grape and characterized by an intriguing, fresh and genuine flavor, the Novello (new) wine, is the star of San Martino in Cantina. This is the first hint as to the type of wines that we'll be drinking later of any given vintage. Thanks to the limited alcohol content, the Novello is a favorite among young drinkers, amateurs and connoisseurs alike.

Italians firmly believe that wine cannot be fully appreciated unless it is accompanied by the right food and San Martino in Cantina is no exception. In fact, the participating wineries offer intriguing selections of regional specialties, including cheeses, both young and mild, as well as aged and strong-flavored varieties, game, chestnuts, cold cuts and much more.
