Registration for the 8th annual La Selezione del Sindaco (The Mayor's Selection) international wine competition is open. The 2009 event is sponsored by the Banca di Trento e Bolzano (Trento and Bolzano Bank).
This is the only international wine competition which requires the joint participation of the producing estate and the municipality in which the grapes are cultivated, with the goal of promoting small, quality wine productions.
As usual, the Selezione del Sindaco is the fruit of the collaborative efforts of Recevin, Associazione Nazionale Cittą del Vino (National Association of the City of Wine), and Res Tipica InComune, with the scientific support of the Organization International de la Vigne e du Vin (International Organization of Vines and Wine). The selection will take place at the Istituto Agrario San Michele all'Adige (Agricultural Institute of San Michele all'Adige) in the province of Trento, from May 22 to 24, 2009.
The deadline to register wines is May 5, 2009.
Early birds who register two or more wines before January 31, 2009, may register a third wine for free.

As usual, the wines selected by the international juries including enologists, wine technicians, tasters, sommeliers and trade journalists, will receive their awards in Rome, at the Sala Protomoteca in Rome's Capitol, on July 6, 2009.
As in the past, the AICEV (Associazione Italiana dei Collezionisti di Etichette di Vino, or Italian Association of Wine Label's Collectors) and La Selezione del Sindaco will reward the best labels of the wines participating in the competition. The top award will go to the label judged to be the best overall, while three honorable mentions will go to the best original subject, the best subject in relation to the area where the wine was made, and the label with the best theme, respectively.
