Week of the Italian Language in the World

A reading by Italian writer Marco Mancassola on October 20, 2008, opened the 'Week of the Italian Language in the World', which is part of a larger Italian festival in Vietnam.

The 'Week of the Italian Language in the World' began in 2001, and this year is in its 8th annual and lasted from Monday, October 20, to Sunday, October 26, 2008.

Italian Lifestyle

An outdoor exhibition entitled 'Lifestyle Made in Italy', organized in collaboration with the Piedmont Region, took place in the square during the week of the festival to showcase products made in Italy, including furniture, wines, cars and clothes.

On Friday, October 24, 2008, Luca Bianchini, producer of the popular Italian radio show Colazione da Tiffany (Breakfast at Tiffany's) and author of a biography of Italian singer Eros Ramazotti, as well as various novels, with the help of the video entitled 'Today' explained with irony and humor how Turin has become a modern city. Turin, one of Italy's main industrial cities, was profoundly changed after the 2006 Olympic Winter Games.

The 'Week of the Italian Language in the World' is just one section of a broader Italian Autumn event, organized by the Italian embassy.

"A sequence of events aimed at further strengthening not only cultural, but also economic and commercial bilateral ties. It is with this objective in mind that I intend to operate my mission in Vietnam," said Italian Ambassador, Andrea Perugini.

As part of the Italian Autumn event, on November 4, at 7PM, the Italian group La Nuova Arca (The New Ark) from Turin, will present a selection of Italian Opera arias by Donizetti, Verdi, Rossini and Puccini, at the Ha Noi Opera House.

Another greatly awaited event of the Italian Autumn is a grand celebration of Italian cuisine, presented by select restaurants in collaboration with some of Italy's most famous wine producers. The Italian Food Festival will be held on November 15, at Hanoi's American Club, from 5.30PM on.

The Italian Autumn will close with a presentation by Italian contemporary film director Silvio Soldini on December 1st and 2nd, organized in collaboration with the Swiss Embassy.
