Wine and More at Turin's Salone del Gusto 2008 Staff Writer - September 3, 2008
Since the first Salone del Gusto (Taste Fair) in Turin, back in 1996, the event has been a key to discovery, exploration and better understanding the international food and wine universe. This year's seventh edition will take place from October 23 to 27, and hosts a series of not-to-be-missed opportunities for wine lovers, as well as lovers of other alcoholic beverages such as rum, sake and vodka, to mention but a few of the drinks presented and/or featured in the over 100 Taste Workshops in the event's program.

The Taste Workshops are one new feature introduced in 2008, and is organized and moderated by the very first graduates of the new University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo and Colorno, Italy. The three-year graduate course, with its comprehensive teaching program as well as many field trips in Italy and abroad, has fully equipped the students to oversee the taste education sessions at the Turin's Salone.
For the first time ever, the trade show visitors have the opportunity to delve into the heritage of Italian wine fostered in the vast 19th century wine cellar at the Agenzia di Pollenzo, in the province of Cuneo, thanks to a number of Taste Workshops staged by the Banca del Vino (Wine Bank), whose main aim is that of storing great wines to sell only when they have reached optimal aging.
In addition, the 7th Salone del Gusto features the Vignerons d’Europe (Vintners of Europe) a space dedicated to natural wines, inside Pavilion 5. The space is reserved to wines made with grapes from vines cultivated in total respect of the natural fertility of the soil and in balanced ecosystem environments. The first meeting of European vintners organized by Slow Food, with the support of the Languedoc and Roussillon Regional Authority and the Metropolitan Area of Montpellier, took place in April 2007 in Montpellier, France.
