The wine section was added in 2006 and currently attracts over 16,000 visitors and 154 exhibitors from 23 countries.
A panel of independent judges, including well known experts from the international wine arena, selected the Best Buy selection list of wines, which will allow visitors to discover outstanding quality/cost ratio. The section will include four categories based on the wines' ex-cellar cost: under €2, from €2 to €4, from €4 to €6, and from €6 to €10
(see value in other currencies). Each section will feature a central tasting area, offering visitors over 200 wines from 14 countries for taste.
Another new feature which underscore the innovative twist pursued by the French salon is the Wine Innovation Forum, with two sections devoted to varietals and international brands respectively, featuring wine tastings and presentations by the producers.
The Varietals area will present 10 wine types from around the world, highlighting each one's characteristics and potential in the world's major markets.
The Top Brands zone will promote 30 major wine brands whose innovative character, sales performance and value are currently animating the international wine market. Sixteen French, and 14 international estates will present their wines and share anecdotes about their success stories.
The SIAL d'Or (Gold) awards 2008 include a new wine category dedicated to labels that have been outstandingly successful in their own domestic markets.
In partnership with Ubifrance, a French agency for international business development, the organizers will set up customized buyer/producer meetings which typically, put winemakers in touch with buyers from all around the world, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Germany, Italy, Korea, US, and Belgium among others.
