Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia at the 42nd Vinitaly
Staff Writer - March 30, 2008

At the 42nd Vinitaly wine trade show in Verona, the association Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia (Movement for Wine Tourism in Apulia) is organizing a space called Vino e Territorio (Wine and Territory), where it organizes events aimed at facilitating the meeting between supply and demand. This represents a good opportunity for Apulia vintners to pour their best wines for important Italian and international trade journalists and, more importantly, for professional buyers, importers and distributors. The Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia will be at hand to provide information about the state of vitiviniculture in Apulia, as well as about the activities promoted during the trade show.

Starting at 11 on both Thursday the 3rd and Friday the 4th of April, 2008, journalists, buyers and opinion leaders will be invited to take part in a virtual journey from the Daunia to the Salento areas, through tasting of local wines paired with typical regional food products.

Saturday, April 5th, will be entirely dedicated to a workshop with international buyers entitled 'Taste & Buy – Puglia.' This is a great opportunity for the 55 participating wine estates, as well as for Italian and international buyers who can establish important business contacts.

Sunday is the day on which Vinitaly is traditionally open to the general public, thus the meeting for the day will be dedicated to members of the Movinclub from Lombardy, that is, wine tourists interested in discovering and tasting wine and typical foodstuffs from Apulia.

The same day, visitors can take part in an intriguing Caccia al Sentore (Aroma Hunt), or a special treasure hunt to discover in a playful way the best known Apulia native wines: Negroamaro, Nero di Troia and Primitivo. First, the participants will be invited to smell specific scents, then they will taste the wines, trying to figure out which one matches best the sampled aromas. At the end, the participants who have chosen the same wine selected by a commission of 'professional noses', whose choice is unchallengeable, win a 12-bottle case of the wine.

To highlight the value of the native wines as a promotional vehicle as well as cultural identity, an art installment entitled 'native wine showcase' will be set up in a space contiguous to the Vino e Territorio event.

Finally, from 3 to 4pm, the association Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia, in collaboration with the AIS Puglia (Apulia chapter of the Italian Association of Sommeliers), will oversee the tasting meeting with a delegation of international journalists organized by the Istituto per il Commercio Estero (ICE, or International Trade Institute, entitled 'The Three Native Vines from Apulia'.
