The Pre-Tasting of Nizza Wine Returns Staff Writer - March 21, 2008
After the success of the 2007 annual, the Anteprima del Barbera d'Asti Superiore Nizza Monferrato, that is, the pre-tasting of the Barbera d'Asti Superiore from Nizza Monferrato, returns this coming May 5, 2008. Thus, the Italian and foreign press have a new appointment in the small Nizza Monferrato town to pre-taste the products of the 2005 vintage, which will be released in the near future.
The tasting station reserved for the press will be held at the splendid agriturismo Tenuta La Romana, of Nizza Monferrato. The location is a restructured country home transformed into upscale reception center. Here the journalists will taste the cellar results of an excellent vintage, defined by the President of the Associazione Produttori del Nizza (Association of the Nizza Producer), Gianluca Morino, as "a happy return to the classic roots of the Barbera". Compared to the 2004 vintage presented in 2007 on the occasion of the first pre-tasting, the 2005 enjoyed a more regular weather pattern, without excessive heat waves during summertime. During the seasonal vegetative course of the vines, temperatures remained average, and the grapes ripened regularly in due time. There were a few showers toward the end of August and beginning of September, which helped maintain the sugar content within the needed values, thus the wine did not become excessively alcoholic. Because of the the Barbera d'Asti Superiore Nizza Monferrato 2005 presents itself as a classic Barbera and, overall, a drinkable wine in line with the demands of modern consumers, who are ever more enticed by pleasant wines with a strong terroir character.
This year's preview includes some new features, starting with the opportunity offered to journalists to visit some local wine producing estates. In addition, there will be the tasting of the delicious Amaretti di Monbaruzzo (cookies made with crushed almonds, egg whites, sugar and, sometimes, added flavorings or powdered chocolate, paired with the Moscato d'Asti dessert wine, which is one of the most classic pairing at the end of the meal in this area of Italy.
This second annual provides a great opportunity for all producer members of the association, who believe in the importance of offering the trade press an important panoramic feel of the wines and terroir.
