Norway: Wine Sales Up in January Staff Writer - February 19, 2008
Vinmonopolet, the Norwegian national retail monopoly has announced that sales were up for the first month of 2008, with an increase of 6% over the same period the previous year.

There is a difference though, among the various beverages. In fact, whereas table wine and spirit sales increased by 6.4% and 5.7% respectively, sales of fortified wine and beer decreased by 7.5% and 3.5% respectively in the same period.
In January Vinmonopolet reported an overall increase in sales of 3.4% in 2007.
For the second year in a row, the most sold red wines were Italian, while Germany topped the sales of white wine, followed by France.
Because of a 1994 European Economic Area agreement, Vinmonopolet abandoned wholesale alcohol sales in 1996, concentrating exclusively on retail sales from then on.
