Friday, April 21
We have breakfast with my mom and play a little with Bilù, her beautiful orange and mostly white cat. When it is time to say goodbye we are all a little sad and my 88 year-old mom fights back the tears. She waves goodbye from her little balcony and, I know, already misses us.

Enrico Romagnoli, another old good friend for who I thank my lucky star, drives us to Bologna airport.

The flight back to San Francisco via Munich is uneventful, if not for the fact that once in San Francisco, Customs does not let the red Ostiglia or the whole grain rice pass. They have no problem though with the white Roma rice.

When we finally arrive home at around 9:30 PM Maya, our Roman cat welcomes us with great affection. She might have appreciated the house sitter who spent time with her while we were away, but she certainly appears happy to see us and crawls on my lap looking for affection while we watch a three-week-old tivoed episode of The OC before going to bed.
