When we check in at the Guglielmo Marconi airport in Bologna, we find out that our Meridiana flight to Sardinia, which I booked online back in California, will take us to Olbia where we need to change planes in order to get to Cagliari, where we land 10 minutes after noon.

From Cagliari airport to Hotel Cala di Seta, at Calasetta, Sardinia

We rent a small, yet spiffy, Lancia Ypsilon 5 equipped with GPS and head to Calasetta, on the small Sant'Antioco Island connected to the larger Sardinia Island by a bridge. We have a room reserved at the Hotel Cala Di Seta (Silk Bay), where we are the only guests, since it is low season. We check in, deposit our bags and go out immediately to discover the small charming port town town, walking around for a couple of hours, then return to the hotel where we check the e-mail, refresh and relax a bit before going out again for dinner at around 7:15. We know that most places are closed, however we are surprised that also the couple of restaurants suggested by the hotel owner are closed. We end up in a pizza place on the edge of the main square with a dining room on the second floor.

We are the only clients, so the owner/chef/waiter asks us if we want to see a concert or something else on the wide, flat screen TV. We choose to see an old DVD of Michael Jackson Dangerous Tour in Bucharest, Romania, while eating two very good, large, thin pizzas: alle verdure (vegetable, with grilled sliced eggplants and zucchini, fresh tomatoes, and a whole lot of arugola) for Brigit, and Sarda (Sardinian, with mozzarella, pecorino, and Sardinian sausage) for me. We eat slowly, enjoying the concert and a bottle of Cannonau by Cantina Jerzu, and at the end I seal the dinner with a shot of Mirto, the typical Sardinian liqueur made with blueberries.

Later, walking home, we find out that the restaurants are not actually closed, but only open for business starting at around 8:30.

Back at the hotel we discover that the electronic heater is not working anymore and we can not get it to restart. We sleep dressed under all the blankets that we can find in the room, as we are alone in the whole building.
