February on stage for Frignano Gourmet
Daniele Bondi - February 26, 2004

Frignano Gourmet LogoThe introduction of chocolate maker, Valter Tagliazucchi, at the fortunate TV show “Quelli che il calcio…” ("Those who the soccer ...") was certainly the February highlight for the organization Frignano Gourmet. The well known pastry chef from Pavullo, Italy was invited by Simona Ventura, the TV show host, following Tagliazucchi successes at international trade shows, including a First Place at the 2003 Pastry Making Gran Prix in Barcelona, Spain and a Third Place for the Trofeo Barry Callebaut 2004 in Rimini, Italy. Ventura showed great interest in Tagliazucchi's chocolate sculptures and promised to visit the Pasticceria del Giamberlano, the chef's own store in Pavullo, Italy. Tagliazucchi said that he is currently working "on books and ingredients while preparing for the admission text to the Accademia dei Maestri Pasticceri Italiani (Italian Academy for Pastry Chefs) which takes place in Brescia, Italy on March 3, 2004. and says, "At the exam I will present my Rosa Nera (Black Rose), the dessert that won me Pastry Making Gran Prix, set on a chocolate pièce created especially for this event."

In the meantime, the ongoing wine tasting evevents at the Wine-Restaurant Sottosopra continue on Tuesday March 2, with a Dinner-Tasting event presenting the Saiagricola group. Fattoria del Cerro, La Poderina and Colpetrone, the three wineries associated with SAI, introduce their most important red wines from Tuscany and Umbria, which are Montepulciano, Montalcino and Montefalco. The evening ends with the tasting of an exceptionally sweet wine. On Tuesday March 16, 2004 another Dinner-Tasting event entitled "Emilia and Romagna meet", introduces the Emilian commercial farm Podere Riosto, producer of excellent Colli Bolognesi wines such as Pignoletto, Barbera and Cabernet Sauvignon. From Imola, the Tre Monti commercial farm presents its outstanding Sangiovese Thea and a delicious Albana Passito.

After the overwhelming success of the sold-out St. Valentine's night music and food event, the dynamic Ristorante La Vecchia Quercia (The Old Oak Tree Restaurant) will continue promoting exciting events. "In March", says Gianluca Distasio, "we have an interesting theme dinner which includes the tasting of quality Colli Piacentini wines including some produced by the Borgo di Rivalta winery. On March 8, Women's Day, we present a-la-carte cuisine and live music with the duo Marco & Jenny. On Friday, March 26 we have planned a super dinner including 11 fresh seafood courses."

Marisa Tognarelli, the well known pastry chef from Sestola who created last year's Chocolate Extravaganza event, let us know that she is working around the clock preparing "theme Easter eggs dedicated to Nature. The eggs are made either of plain chocolate or a mixture of chocolate and almond crunch." If you are in the area, we suggest passing by the Pasticceria Turchi in downtown Sestola, where for a limited time, all customers are welcomed with a complimentary glass of melted chocolate seasoned with sherry liqueur. The store continues the creation of tasty pralines. This month's creation consists of a strawberry-scented plain chocolate "trunk" filled with white chocolate.

Finally, the Frignano Gourmet Association has set the date for the second Annual Chocolate Extravaganza. for the first weekend in April. The event kicks off Thursday, the 1st with the evening dedicated to "Birra & Cioccolato" ("Beer & Chocolate") and continues Friday the 2nd, with "Rhum & Cioccolato" ("Rum & Chocolate") , at the Wine-Restaurant Sottosopra. Saturday the 3rd, the Ristorante La Vecchia Quercia presents the Chocolate Gala Dinner and finally, the event winds up on Sunday the 4th, with the installment of many high quality eno-gastronomic booths offering wine tasting and outstanding chocolate creations in Piazza Cesare Battisti.

It promises to be an event that every food and wine lover don't want to miss.
