Spain : Rioja Production Slightly Lower than 2003 Staff Writer - July 14, 2004
For the 2004 harvest, the production expectations for the Spanish Rioja DOC are at about 400 thousand tons of grapes, a value that marks a slight downward trend compared to the 2003 harvest that produced 437 thousand tons of grapes. Thus, wine production is expected to be of about 280 thousand tons of Rioja DOC.
This is the forecast released by the appellation consortium that has decided to maintain the yield at 6,500 kilograms per hectare (approximately 2,630 pounds per acre) for the red wines and 9,000 kilograms per hectare (about 3,644 pounds per acre) for the white wines.

Map of the Rioja DOC Production Zone
