2007 Italian Wine Exports Aims to Break the Record Set in 2006

Italian wine exports have grown throughout the first half of the current year and, according to recent figures, the sector is set to break the record set the previous year.

Elaborating on data provided by ISTAT (Istituto Nazionale delle Statistiche, or Italian National Statistic Institute), on October the 2nd the association Unione Italiane Vini (UIV, or Italian Wine Union), said that the value of Italian wine exports was up 12% compared to the same period in 2006, rising to €1.6 billion (see value in other currencies) in the first six months of 2007. The UIV added that the volume increased 15% year-on-year.

Projections for the whole year expect Italian wine exports to exceed the €3.1 billion record registered last year.
