Campari announces investments for 500 million Euros Staff Writer - December 27, 2003
Campari, the largest Italian alcoholic beverage company, ranked sixth worldwide, declared that the enterprise is ready to invest up to 500 million Euros to expand the global market share of spirits and wines.
In summer 2003, Campari acquired 100% control of the historic Piedmont brand Riccadonna – the maker of the well-known Spumante President Riserve – for 11.3 billion Euros. In 2001, Campari acquired the historic Sardinian Sella & Mosca vineyard and winery for 40 million Euros. Sella & Mosca is a commercial reality which includes 500 hectares (about 1,235.5 acres) of vineyards producing seven million bottles per year with a gross income of 30 million Euros and is among the first wine producing companies in the world to grow grapes in China.
The new investments focus on the acquisition of Italian medium-sized wineries with a strong brand recognition and growing potential. Basically, wine companies that are the size of and have the brand recognition of Sella & Mosca.
