Wine: Once Again Italy Is Number One Exporter to the United States Staff Writer - January 28, 2005
"The dominance of Italian wine on the tables of American consumers has been reaffirmed and constitutes a great satisfaction for the entire sector, confirming the general quality and great potential of the national wine industry," declared the Minister for Agricultural and Forest Policies, Gianni Alemanno.
He was commenting on the figures released January 28, 2005 by the Italian Wine & Food Institute, according to which in November 2004 Italian wine returned to pole position on the US market, recording a 13.8 percent increase of the quality of exported products, and a 26.4 percent increase of value.
"The increase of the value of the exportations," added Alemanno, "consolidates the position of strength of our vines, and demonstrates that the result we have obtained is an effect of the strenuous defense of Italian products which we have put up by means of an effort of certification as well as an excellent concordance between quality and price. We have thereby been able to defend the identity of our national product and prevent it from being bottled along with French wines and those of new international producers".
"The level of excellence of our wines," conclude Alemanno, "imposes an always more rigorous protection of Italian products, which involves a registration of brands that will make attempts of forgery impossible, and benefit of course the Italian and worldwide consumers."
