Iron Chef America: The Series is an American cooking show based on Iron Chef, a Japanese television program produced by Fuji Television Inc. whose original Japanese title was Ironmen of Cooking (料理の鉄人, Ryōri no Tetsujin) is the second American adaptation of the series, following the failed Iron Chef USA.
The series is produced by Food Network and brings together two of America's most popular pastimes: eating and watching reality television.
In 2008 the Iron Chef America brand decided to add wine to the mix with the launch of the Iron Chef Wines labels, produced in partnership by Fuji Television Inc., Mirrotek International and Italian Wine Growers Inc.
The line of products features four 2007 estate-bottled Italian wines, two reds, Chianti and Merlot, and two whites, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay. The labels mirror the show's flashy, kitschy style.
Despite the quality hinted by the slogan in funny Japanese-translated English: "It takes a special culinary master to achieve the title of Iron Chef. Such is true with wine", each bottle costs less than $12 and features table wine meant for everyday drinking.
The wines are not endorsed by any of the famous US Iron Chefs such as Bobby Flay or Mario Batali, because by contract the TV series stars are not allowed to back the product.
