November 6th: The Vino Novello is Out

On November 6, 2007, along with all the other wines of the same category, which by law cannot be sold before this date, the Vino Novello dei Colli Bolognesi (New Wine from the Bologna Hills) hits the market. Among the wine producers associated with the Consortium of the Bologna Hills, only two produce a Novello: Cantina Bazzano, which bears the label Nuevo (New, in Spanish), made with Merlot grapes, and the Azienda Agricola Tizzano, whose Vino Novello is made with Barbera grapes.
November 6 is an important date because, in addition to the immediate pleasure offered by the drink itself, the pleasantly unmistakable taste of grapes, in a glass of Vino Novello one can picture hints of the wine to come, of the characteristics to be found, though fuller and mature, in the regular wines made with the same 2007 grapes, which are currently ripening and evolving in the cellar, waiting to hit the market in 2008. Despite the dry summer spell, the 2007 harvest gave excellent results in the Colli Bolognesi wine zone.

The Azienda Agricola Tizzano is located on the panoramic ridge overlooking Casalecchio di Reno, nearby the Tizzano Hermitage. On the occasion of the Vino Novello 2007 launch the winery is open to the public all day, Sunday, November 11, 2007, from 10AM to 6PM. The Novello made with Barbera grapes has ruby red color with purply highlights. It pair very well with seasonal products, in fact, Sunday the 11th is offered paired with caldarroste (roasted chestnuts) thanks to the association Casalecchio Insieme (Casalecchio Together).
Nuevo, the Novello wine made with Merlot grapes by Cantina Bazzano is on sale at the winery store from 8:30AM to 12:30PM, and from 2:30 to 6:30PM during the week and morning only on Saturday. The winery store is closed on Sunday.
Tasting the Novello wines offers the opportunity for an excursion in the Colli Bolognesi, which in Fall are extremely evocative and awaken the photographer inside everyone, with the vineyards decked out in warm red and yellow colors which seem to envelop the Autumn green of the fields.
Tasting Novello wines is ideal for those who are getting acquainted with wine, thanks to the pleasant flavor of the drink, the very low alcohol content, and the decidedly accessible cost.
