'Wine Must Only Be Wine': Cuneo Coldiretti's Campaign
Staff Writer - June 8, 2006

Oak ChipsCuneo's chapter of the Coldiretti launches a campaign against the decision made in Brussels to admit the use of wood chips to age wine artificially.

The tag line for the protest is: 'wine must only be wine'.

Interested parties can join to the protest by sending the text message 'wine must be wine' to Coldiretti at the number (+39) 334.1091748, or via e-mail addressed to solovino@coldiretticuneo.org.

Coldiretti vehemently sustained that the Italian wine production is based on vines, territory and the work of men and women in the industry. This view excludes any misuse and abuse.

According to Coldiretti, the use of pieces of wood to flavor wine and 'age it' artificially, is tantamount to abuse and consumer fraud. The practice of adding chunks of wood in barrels, or saw dust during fermentation is very common in producing countries such as Argentina, Australia and the US.

Cuneo Coldiretti asks that for the mandatory mention on the label of wines that have been prepared with the use of such pieces of wood or saw dust.
