In order to warrant the survival of the beautiful countryside, healthful environments and evocative panoramas, such as the ones found on the Italian mountains, to compensate adequately the farmers who live on it and work the land on a daily basis is a must."

This is what the CONAF (Consiglio dell'Ordine Nazionale dei Dottori Agronomi e dei Dottori Forestali, or Council of the National Order Agronomists and Forest Graduates) President, Andrea Sisti, at the opening of Vinitaly, during the a presentation of the Viticoltura Eroica (Heroic Agriculture) brand by CERVIM (Centro di Ricerche, Studi, Salvaguardia, Coordinamento e Valorizzazione per la Viticoltura di Montagna, or Center for the Research, Study, Protection, Coordination and Valorization of Mountain Viticulture.)

"I applaud this important initiative by CERVIM," added Sisti, "because it allows for better protection and promotion, and adds value to the so-called heroic wines and their great quality, as they bring added value to the economy of the production areas."

An important tool to this end will be the next Politica Agricola (Agricultural Politics,) 2014-2020. "The politics ruling the EU's agriculture," said Sisti, "must put in place measures to guarantee income to farmers, allowing them to innovate and diversify the management of the land and farms."
