At Paris' Charles De Gaulle extensive airport, we go through customs, then transfer from Terminal F2 to D2 just in time to board for our flight to Bologna. We land 15 minutes earlier than expected and find our good friend Gastone waiting to drive us to downtown Castelfranco Emilia and the gorgeous frescoed apartment that he and Rita lend us whenever Brigit travels with me to Italy.

After unpacking, we take a walk under the porticos and go visit my 92-year-old mom at her apartment. Lately she has had eye and hearing problems, in fact, she has been to a medical control at Modena's hospital earlier in the day, and my sister, Luisa, and brother-in-law, Dante, who take care of Mom on a daily basis, are visiting with her and update us on all the troubles and hardships of the last few months, since I was here last, in December 2009, and mom was still her perky self.

Later, Brigit and I prepare and have dinner with my mom, before returning to our nido d'amore, 'love nest', as Rita defined the frescoed apartment when I called from California to let her know that we would arrive in Italy the day after Valentine's Day.
