Ready for the final competition open to the public which will determine the best wines made with Italian native vines.
From the final competition, which will take place at the end of July, the best Italian native wines according to Vinibuoni d'Italia (Good Wines of Italy) and Touring Club Publisher will emerge. In addition to being presented in the wine guide Vinibuoni d'Italia 2011 (Good Wines of Italy 2011), the winning products will be awarded the top honor awarded by the jury –the Corona (Crown), and the Golden Star– along with a diploma, which will be delivered in November, during the Merano International Wine Festival & Gourmet 2010.
Vinibuoni d'Italia is the only wine guide totally dedicated to Italian wines produced with 100% native vines, or vines which have a documented history and tradition which dates back over 300 years. The high point of the selection process, which is exceptionally committed to transparency, is the final face-off open to the public. It is unheard of for wines selected as the top products of the year to be published in a guide. In fact, vintners, winemakers, journalists and other media types, wine lovers and curious consumers, can follow the work of the jury live, it includes two national curators, Mario Busso and Luigi Cremona, assisted by the regional coordinators.
The selection started out locally with 25 regional tasting commissions of professional sommeliers and trade journalists, who tasted over 20,000 Italian wines. From these, the 500 native wines which will face-off in the final national competition were selected.

The final selection will start at Acqui Terme on Thursday, July 22, and ends on Saturday, July 24, 2010. The event counts on the patronage of the Municipality and Tourism Councilor Office of Acqui Terme, the provincial administration of Alessandria, and the Piedmont regional administration, in collaboration with the Grand Hotel Nuove Terme, which will host the competition. The festival Sorsi di Stelle (Sips of Stars) will mark the conclusion of the work of the jury, with about 30 tasting booths aligned along the city central street, Via XX Settembre, offering participants samples of the local gastronomy paired with the winning wines.
