Wines Without Borders: A Bridge to the World Staff Writer - June 22, 2007
The internationalization of wine tourism is the focus of a convention to be held in Siena. For the occasion, respected speakers will relate to 20 future tourist industry professionals arrived from Canada.
On Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at 3:00PM, at the headquarters of the Enoteca Italiana di Siena (Italian Enoteca in Siena), an important convention entitled Vini Senza Confini: Un ponte verso l'estero (Wines Without Borders: A Bridge to the World), will take place. The event is organized by CNIPA Puglia (Apulia chapter of the Centro Nazionale per Informatica nella Pubblica Amministrazione National Center for Computer Science Applied to Public Administration), in collaboration with the association Movimento Turismo del Vino Puglia (Movement for Wine Tourism, Apulia chapter) and British Columbia's Associazione Culturale Pugliese (Apulia Cultural Association). The meeting is part of the educational project entitled Il Turismo del vino: le buone prassi (Wine Tourism: The Good Procedure), financed by the Ministero del Lavoro e della Previdenza Sociale (Work and Social Security Ministry) as provided for by law to Italian cirizens residing outside the European Union (D.lgs. 112/98).
The project started in Vancouver in February 2007 and is directed to Italians residing in the consular districts of British Columbia and the Yukon, in Canada. The goal of the project is to prepare professional operators with specific expertise in promoting Italian enogastronomy system, typical productions and culture-focused tourism.
The convention will bring 20 aspiring professionals to Italy from the district of Vancouver. They represent the new generation of Italian immigrants who, though totally integrated into the Canadian culture and social structure, have maintained their Italian heritage. The appointment in Siena will be the first step of a 15-day workshop, during which the Canadian guests will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the Italian regional wine and food culture of the Tuscan, Marche, Umbria and Apulia regions.
