Montefalco, Umbria

Montefalco wants to reiterate that in the area, wine tourism is a year-long event and it's not limited to the last week in May.

In the Sagrantino wine capital, each major winery will open the doors one Sunday at a time until October, welcoming wine tourists for wine tasting and tours among barrels and barriques. In addition, the Strada del Sagrantino organizes colazioni tra le vigne (Meals in the Vineyards) and passeggiate dei sapori (Flavor Hikes), during which the wine tourists will ride in special busses, assisted by a tourist guide and provided with tasting glasses. They will explore the area where the great Sagrantino DOCG wine is produced, in a journey which includes stops at wineries and at the best estates of the wine zone.

The Strada del Sagrantino, which takes its name from the superior native Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG wine, made with native vines, which in recent years gained much attention in the international wine arena, proposes its itinerary each Sunday, from late spring to autumn.

All this in addition to Meals in the Vineyards, assisted by an expert guide and riding in comfortable busses on the rolling hills, gazing at the vineyards and olive groves of the Sagrantino wine zone.

The tour stops in the suggestive historic towns of Bevagna, Castel Ritaldi, Giano dell'Umbria, Gualdo Cattaneo and Montefalco as well, where recently have been uncovered ancient winemaking vats used by Franciscan monks in times long gone.
