Top Wines and Trentino Grappa 2006 Tour Staff Writer - February 26, 2006
The official list of the Top Wines and Trentino Grappa 2006 is the result of an accurate selection and cross reference of points assigned to the various labels. Now that the work is completed, 28 wineries and 10 distilleries are engaged in a European tour, presenting 58 wines and 10 grappas produced in the Italian Alpine region of Trentino.
The list resulted from the analyses of the points assigned by the five most prestigious Italian wine guides, which hit the bookstores in the fall of every year. The guides are:
- Guida Vini d'Italia 2006
- Duemilavini 2006
- I Vini di Veronelli 2006
- Annuario dei migliori Vini Italiani 2006
- I Vini d'Italia 2006
Subsequently, commissions appointed by the Chamber of Commerce integrated the list with the most representative wines from the region and those produced with native vines. The commissions selected the 10 best Trentino Grappa 2006 as well.
Currently, 38 producers from Trentino are pouring their best wines and grappas in an European tour that started in Naples on February the 20th. The complete schedule of appointments include:
- February 20, 2006
Hotel Excelsior, Naples
- February 27, 2006
Hotel St. Regis Grand, Rome
- March 6, 2006
Hotel Principe di Savoia, Milan
- March 13, 2006

- March 20, 2006

Typically, the events are open to the public from 4pm to 10pm. They start with a comprehensive wine tasting opened to all participants, who can taste all the wines and grappas showcased for free. The top wines and grappas are poured by the producers themselves, who will gladly answer all questions that visitors might have.
The wines range from the sparkling Trento DOC Classic Method, to the quality mountain whites, such as the Trentino DOC Müller Thurgau, the best native reds, which include Trentino DOC Marzemino and Teroldego Rotaliano DOC, in addition to excellent DOC wines produced locally with international grapes. The tasting is completed by dessert wines and the appreciated grappas from Trentino, a region which produces 10% of all Italian grappa.
The most curious among the visitors, and those who would like to deepen their enological knowledge, may sign up for the afternoon meeting held in all the locations.
