Vito a San Luca wins the Trophy Carta delle Carte 2005 Loris Scagliarini - December 30, 2005
Vito a San Luca, in the outskirt of Bologna, Italy, won the Trophy Carta delle Carte 2005 (Best Wine List 2005), awarded by the magazine Bar Giornale (Bar Journal).
The Trophy Carta delle Carte 2005 was organized by the monthly Bar Giornale, in collaboration with CALP SPA - Cristalleria Artistica La Piana, a glass factory from Colle Val d'Elsa, in the province of Siena.
The trophy is awarded to the best Wine List in Italian restaurants. This year the award went to the Ristorante Pizzeria WineBar Gelateria Vito, a historic hangout-eatery which overlooks the city of Bologna from the height of the San Luca hill. San Luca is home to the precious sanctuary with the same name, and can be reached on foot from the outskirts of the city following the climbing path covered by porticos composed of 666 arches which, today as in the Middle Ages, the faithful climb once a year, on the day dedicated to the black San Luca Madonna.
The sanctuary and the amazing porticos are featured in John Grisham's book, 'The Broker', in which the main character climbs to the top from downtown more than once.
The motivation for the award was:
It gets better year after year, each year is innovative.
It's not overpriced, creates links between food and wine, and spreads enological culture.
