First 'Go Wine' National Day:
Primitivo and Negroamaro, plus environment and History in Manduria

Sunday, October 9, 2005, experience the Primitivo and Negroamaro wines in Manduria.

The two vines, natives of this Salento peninsula in the Italian region of Apulia, will be the protagonists of of the First 'Go Wine' National Day. The event, to be celebrated on October 9 in Manduria, invites the associates of all Italian Go Wine clubs to rediscover these native grapes and their local tradition.

Riserve Regionali Naturali del Litorale Tarantino OrientaleThe inviting eno-tourist itinerary organized by the lively small town in the province of Taranto, was organized with the fundamental assistance of the Riserve Regionali Naturali del Litorale Tarantino Orientale (Natural Regional Reservation of the East Taranto Coastline) and the local chapter of Italia Nostra (Our Italy).

Italia NostraEnvironment, archeology, monuments and, of course, plenty of stops to taste the wine in its place of origin amidst its symbols. A journey in which the most demanding eno-tourist can find the stimulation of both intellectual curiosity and taste buds.

"We will visit the Primitivo and Negroamaro vineyards," said sommelier Giuseppe P. Dimagli, Manduria representative of Go Wine, "some wineries an the Museo della Civiltà del Vino Primitivo (Primitivo Wine Culture Museum)."

"It goes without saying that almost all visits will close with a guided tasting of the wines produced by the participating wineries, in addition to the richest of all, in agenda at the Enoteca del Primitivo (Primitivo Wine Bar). The day closes with the projection of documentaries about the harvest in Manduria," said Dimagli.

The ticket includes all guides to the vineyards, reservations, downtown, museum, exhibition, wine tastings, lunch at the restaurant Al Castello (At The Castle), great tasting at the Enoteca del Primitivo, and bus transfer. The cost is amazingly low: only €8 for guests coming from outside the province of Taranto (up to 50 people) and €13 for local residents.

The initiative is supported by the following wine producers: Cantore di Castelforte, Brufico, Attanasio, Daggiano, Consorzio Produttori Vini, Pliniana, Tenuta Abbate di Manduria, Cantina Sociale di Sava and Le Fabriche di Maruggio, with the moral support of the Consorzio di Tutela del Primitivo.

  • Leave on luxury buses.
9:00 AM
  • Visit Primitivo and Negroamaro vineyards, guided by Doc. Bruno Garofano, enologists with the Cantina Sociale di Sava winery.
1000 AM
  • Visit the Cantina Sociale di Sava winery with guided wine tasting.
10:30 AM
  • Visit the Museo della Civiltà del Vino Primitivo, at the headquarters of the Consorzio Produttori Vini di Manduria. Wine tasting moderated by Sommeliers of the AIS (Italian Association of Sommeliers).
11:30 AM
  • Visit to the protected natural areas of Salina dei Monaci and Foce del Fiume Chidro, guided by a member of the Riserve Regionali Naturali del Litorale Tarantino Orientale.
1:30 PM
  • Lecture by Luigi Primicerj, President of the Consorzio di Tutela del Primitivo di Manduria DOC.
  • Lunch at the restaurant "Al Castello" in Manduria, with wines offered by the participating wineries.
3:30 PM
  • Walk in historic downtown Manduria, guided by a member of the Italia Nostra association's local chapter.
4:30 PM
  • Visit to the archeological site "Oltre le Mura" (Outside the Walls) .
5:30 PM
  • Great tasting of Primitivo and Negroamaro wines at the Enoteca del Primitivo di Manduria, moderated by AIS Sommeliers.
6:30 PM
  • Projection of documentaries dedicated to the theme "Harvest in Manduria" at the pub "Angelé".

  • Return to meeting place .
