The Collazzi District Wins Third Annual 'A Tavola con il Nobile'
Press Release - September 7, 2005

Consorzioo del Vino Nobile di MontepulcianoThe Collazzi District is confirmed as having the best local cuisine in the part of town known as the 'Bravìo delle Botti', winning for the second year in a row the appreciated gastronomic award.

Thus the Collazzi District gains the third name place in the 'A Tavola con il Nobile' ('At the Dinner Table with the Noble [Wine]) Golden Book, the gastronomy award created by Italian TV journalists, Bruno Gambacorta, and organized by the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (Nobel Wine from Montepulciano, not to be confused with the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wine) Consortium in collaboration with the Magistrate for the Montepulciano districts.

The jury, composed by journalists from various parts of Italy, awarded the Collazzi District just one point over the Coste district (283 to 282). The other finalists, the districts of Gracciano and Voltaia, confirmed the high quality level of the competition.

For the first eliminatory contest, dedicated to pasta or soup dishes (what Italians call 'Primo Piatto'), the Collazzi District presented a Zuppa di Fagiano con Lenticchie (Pheasant and Lentil Soup), then completed the competition with a Faraona alla Salsa di Collazzi con Composta di Uva (Guinea Fowl with Collazzi Sauce and Grape Compote).

The Award

Bruno Gambacorta, who presided over the jury, extended his compliments to all participating districts, including Poggiolo, San Donato, Cagnano and Talosa, who were eliminated in the first round, but whose recipes were nonetheless outstanding.

The decision of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Consortium to call on Alberto Baraldi, managing director of the local chapter of the Slow Food organization, to pair wine and recipes, was a winning idea that contributed to enhancing the quality of both the food and the quality wines from Montepulciano that were selected.

In delivering the awards to the winning district, Massimo Romeo, president of the Consortium, said that he was truly pleased by the enthusiasm generated by the gastronomic competition.

The event was part of a bigger extravaganza, featuring local wine producer booths in the main square as part of the 'Cantine in Piazza' ('Wineries in the Square'), the opening of the photo exhibition entitled 'Nobili Profumi e Nobili Sapori. Storie di Vigne e di Persone' ('Nobel Aromas and Noble Flavors. Stories of Vineyards and People'), showing at the entrance hall of the Palazzo Comunale. The photo collection, by photographer Paolo Codeluppi and featuring the Montepulciano wine zone, is the idea of architect Marco Sbernadori, who set up the exhibition completed by insightful captions by well known Italian journalist, Ernesto Gentili, who participated in person.
