Staff Writer - December 21, 2004

Siena is to host the first "Study and Service Center" to promote the development of the more than 100 Italian "Wine Roads".

The project was set up by the National Wine Cities Association (comprising more than 540 municipalities) and combines a series of initiatives supporting wine tourism organized by the association.

A collaboration with the Wine Cities and the Censis Servizi, three years ago led to an annual observatory on wine tourism in Italy, an instrument of analysis to be used by the public and private sectors affected by these data. The new "Study and Research Center" will become a point of reference for the committees who run the Roads and will provide them technical consultancy.

The technical consultants of the center are two wine experts: Giovanni Piscolla, 'a connoisseur' of the Wine Roads, and Fabio Piccoli, a teacher and journalist.
