The 18th annual of the Mostra Assaggio (Tasting Exhibition) of wines from the DOC zone of the Consorzio Vini Colli Bolognesi (Consortium of the Wines from the Bologna Hills), returns to the historic center of Bologna with around 120 Pignoletto labels and other DOC wines. Friday 25th, and Saturday 26th of September 2009, twenty or so wineries from the Bologna Hills will be featured in the event, which will take place in the medieval Corte Isolani (Isolani Court), located between the central Santo Stefano and Strada Maggiore streets, that is, one of the most scenic areas in the city and, arguably, of Italy.
The Mostra Assaggio is the most important wine appointment of the year for Bologna and the surrounding province, as it offers a one-stop opportunity to evaluate the major DOC wines produced in the area. The Colli Bolognesi DOC includes 1,200 hectares (around 2,965 acres) of vineyards which produce 45,000 metric tons of grapes per year, or about 2 million bottles of DOC wines.
Mostra Assaggio
• Hours: From 6PM to 10PM
• Tickets: €10
(includes six tastings and glass holder)
The Mostra Assaggio will be presented officially during a press conference at the Chamber of Commerce of Bologna booth, at the Sana, the large trade show dedicated to natural products which will take place in Bologna from September 10 to 13, 2009.
For the native Pignoletto in all its versions –still, slightly sparkling, or spumante, as well as for other Colli Bolognesi DOC wines made with Sauvignon Blanc, Barbera, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, the two days of tasting offer the opportunity to interact early in the season with professional buyers, as well as with consumer connoisseurs and wine lovers.
The event, which is organized by the Consorzio Vini Colli Bolognesi under the leadership of Francesco Cavazza Isolani, appeals to the out-of-town eno-tourist who, for the occasion, will have the opportunity to enjoy the pleasant and architecturally awesome historic center of Bologna, and possibly include excursions to the wineries which dot the hilly landscape surrounding the city.
