The Calice Dorico award goes to Trentino region! Abruzzo wines win the largest number of medals. Good positions for Veneto and Lombardy wines.

The results of the 10th Selezione Nazionale dei Vini da Pesce (National Selection of Seafood Wines), which took place in Ancona, Italy, from May 13 to 15, 2009.

CAVIT winery from Trento gained the Calice Dorico award with the best of show wine, while the Abruzzo region wines scored a significant victory, winning six gold medals at a very difficult time, following the devastating earthquake which struck the region in early April 2009.

The wines from Veneto follow with three gold medals, those from Lombardy take third place with two gold medals, while Apulia and Latium wines scored one gold medal each. Aosta Valley, Trentino, Marches, Basilicata and Tuscany scored good positions as well.

The Premio Marche (Marches Region Award), reserved to three wines from the hosting Marches region, go to:
- Donna Angela 2008, Marche IGT Bianco (White), produced by Santa Cassella winery in Potenza Picena, in the province of Macerata.
- Palio di San Floriano 2008, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC Classico Superiore, produced by La Vite-Monteschiavo estate in Maiolati Spontini, in the province of Ancona.
- Two wines scored the equally for the thir position:
- Colli Maceratesi 2008, Marche DOC white wine produced by Santa Cassella estate, who won the first place as well.
- Calcare 2008, Marche IGT Sauvignon Blanc produced by Conte Leopardi Dittajuti estate in Numana in the province of Ancona.
This is the synthesis of the International jury deliberation during the 3-day "cloistered tasting” surrounded by the wonderful scenery of Mount Conero, overlooking the riviera with the same name.

In this enchanted environment suspended between the Adriatic coastline and the Apennines, chosen centuries ago by the Benedictine monks as their home, 35 qualified tasters separated into five commissions, tasted 524 wine samples submitted by 254 wineries representing the 20 regions of Italy. In total the tasters opened 372 white, 58 blush, and 94 sparkling wines.

Each seven-member commission included five enologists chosen by the by the Associazione Enologi Enotecnici Italiani (Assoenologi, or Italian Association of Enologists and Eno-Technologists), plus two journalists chosen by I.C.E.- Istituto Nazionale per il Commercio Estero (Italian National Institute fir Foreign Commerce) among representatives of national and international press. In total they filled in 3,668 forms, expressed 52,003 partial judgments, and used 4,000 glasses.

The Selezione Nazionale dei Vini da Pesce, which started as an offspring of Fiera Internazionale della Pesca di Ancona ( Ancona's International Fishing Fair), is the single enological contest linked to seafood cuisine approved by the Agricultural Ministry.
