Nobody forces us to drink wine. We open a bottle for gratification, to offer emotions to friends, or for the pleasure of discovering new perfumes and flavors. A dear friend told us many years ago that "Wine is the food of the soul, it is necessary make it good". This is the unwritten statement found inside our bottles. A message that tells about our love for the Earth and its fruits, the devotion of the men who work the fields, the emotions felt in transforming the grapes into the most noble of beverages: wine. |

The commercial farm was established in 1966 with the acquisition of two vineyards, the Ronc di Juri in Buttrio and the Montsclapade in Premariacco. These are old geographic names that stand for "Juri's Vineyard", from the family name of the people who worked these fields for generations before us, and "Split Mountain", because of the road that splits the higher hill.
The enological potential of these fields was immediately evident as, unfortunately, were the limits of the Friuli viticulture of the time in relation to our self-appointed goals. That's why we started restructuring the vineyards, introducing a kind of cultivation that was non existent at the time in Friuli, that is the Guyot at very high density (10,000 vines per hectare, or about 2.5 acres) using machinery inspired by French techniques.
As the quality of the grapes grew consistently, it become evident that the local enology as we knew it imposed severe limitations. We then started working with some of the most valued Italian wine makers in an effort to better understand how to get the best from our grapes.
It was in this way that we introduced the barriques for aging the the great wines. We re-discovered the use of English oak vats for fermentation of the great red wines, as well as the use of trellises to naturally wither the grapes used to make the great sweet wines. We applied the selection of the grapes in the field and refined it at the winery, where expert hands discard all grapes which are less than perfect. Finally, we introduced the artificial cooling of the grapes to avoid the evaporation of precious aromas when the grapes are crushed.
After over thirty years of hard work and learning, we believe that only viticultural quality can produce great grapes which, through a masterful combiunation of tradition, history and technology applied at the winery, are transformed into great wines.
