Wine Dream by Antonio Manfredi |
|
The wine seen as artwork, as the inspirational muse of contemporary artists, as a vital fire. Art as eternal expression of the human soul, as an 'other' language. And Mt. Vesuvius, the volcanic mountain near Naples, its fire and energy. Here, from this place and these concepts arise the Fuoco Vitale, or Vital Fire project. This project overlaps wine and art and vice versa within an evocative physical space, the MAV, or the new, innovative Museo Archeologico Virtuale (Virtual Archeological Museum) in Ercolano.
Arte, Vino e Vulcani September 22 - 30. 2006 MAV Museo Archeologico Virtuale Ercolano, Naples |

Created by Laura Cristinzio for the Associazione Arte da Mangiare Napoli (Naples Eatable Art), with the support of the Naples provincial administration and the administration of the municipality of Ercolano., the project includes three exhibitions: Il Libro d’Artista (The Artist Book), Gli Audiovisivi (The Audiovisuals), and Il Vino da Guardare e Degustare (The Wine to Look At and to Taste). The whole is complemented by these sections.
Twenty artists and 50 wineries join to complete an itinerary that switches from real wine to wine in art, featuring photographs, video, art installation, sculptures, mixed media, art assembly and wine exhibition. It is a sensory journey in search of the Vital Fire, the virtual red thread which pieces together the whole event. The Vital Fire is in the magma of the volcano Vesuvio, which frightens and seduces at the same time. It is in the stem glass filled with red nectar, which warms up the heart. It is in the creative impulse that makes us feel alive. It is in the intoxicating perfume of the fermenting grape juice, which caresses our alert senses. It's in the eternal beauty of pure art.
Libro D'Artista (The Artist Book), moderated by Enzo Battarra
Each artist was asked to create an art object / book on the theme of wine and vital fire. The resulting 20 art works are the free interpretations of the participating artists. The media are of the most disparate types. The results are book-object to be looked at and smelled. They include conceptual works, sculptures and painted books. The itinerary opens with the installation by Laura Cristinzio, which represent a strong sensorial introduction to the Artist Book exhibition.
The participating artists are: Vittorio Avella, Antonio Barbagallo, Angelo Casciello, Mario Ciaramella, Christian Costa, Laura Cristinzio/Stinura, Antonio Davide, Antonio Di Grazia, Peppe Ferraro, Mario Franco, Enrico Grieco, Antonio Manfredi, Armando Morioni, Renata Petti, Veronique Pozzi, Sergio Riccio, Errico Ruotolo, Attilio Tono, Vittorio Tolu, Oreste Zevola.
The Wines
Fifty wines, from as many Campania wineries, were chosen among the region's red made with native grapes. The bottles are exposed in special display cases which wind through an exhibiting itinerary that leads to a tasting table, where uniformed sommeliers will lead the wine tasting.
The Audiovisuals
Fuoco Vitale award – directed by Mario Franco
The audiovisual creations will be projected continually on a big screen, under the direction of Mario Franco. The short movies are first works from young artists, students of the Naples' Art Academy. The whole body of work includes 12 videos defined 'experimental, avant-garde, free, non-narrative, abstract, and underground.'
The Location
The Museo Archeologico Virtuale (Virtual Archeological Museum), housed in a former, ancient school, is a three-storie, new concept environment expanding on 1,000 square meters. It includes one exhibition floor, a large theater and the archeology museum, which is equipped with all the latest, cutting edge information technology tools.
